Opening reception for John Kissick exhibition, March 29

The opening reception for an exhibition of paintings by John Kissick will be held from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., Monday, March 29 in the Isabella Cannon Room, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. The exhibit, part of the James H. McEwen, Jr. Visual Arts Series, will be on display through Thursday, April 15. The opening reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

Kissick’s non-objective paintings and drawings construct intimate but ambiguous spaces that address a central issue: How does one consciously make abstract paintings that are both ironic and authentic? His art has been displayed throughout the United States and in cities such as Toronto and Shanghai.

An accomplished painter and writer, Kissick is director of The School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph, Canada. He earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art and a master’s degree from Cornell University. He is the author of “Art: Context and Criticism,” released in 1992, with a second edition released in 1995. He has also written numerous essays and articles for publications in Canada.
