Rev. Dr. Angela Yarber from Wake Forest University will speak at Numen Lumen Pavilion as part of the J-term series "The Sexy and Genderful God"
We are delighted to announce that Rev. Dr. Angela Yarber will participate in our January series “The Sexy and Genderful God.” She will speak on January 12 at 5 p.m. in Numen Lumen Pavilion about “Gender and Sex, Body and Desire in Christian Worship.”
Dr. Yarber is a part-time Assistant Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Wake Forest University and Wake Forest University School of Divinity. She has been a professional artist, dancer, and clergywoman since 1999. The author of six books, including The Gendered Pulpit: Sex, Body, and Desire in Christian Worship, her work deals with the intersections among religion, gender, sexuality, the arts, and embodiment.
For nearly three years she served as Pastor for Preaching and Worship at the only Baptist church in the country with two out lesbians as head pastors. When she is not writing, teaching, painting, or preaching, she enjoys running, yoga, travel, and eating delicious vegan food. Dr. Yarber and her wife live in Winston-Salem with their one-year-old child.
