Honglin Xiao presents at geographers’ 100th meeting

Honglin Xiao, assistant professor of geography, presented a paper at the 100th annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers in Philadelphia, March 14-19. Nearly 5,000 geographers and scientists from around the world attended the centennial meeting.

Xiao’s paper constructed a 4,000-year record of monsoon and ENSO (El Niño/Southern Oscillation) activity from a 23 cm long stalagmite from Xianren Cave in Guangdong Province, China. The paper charted the historical course of typhoons, precipitation and temperature changes in the region.
