Students, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to provide input on Elon University’s Sustainability Master Plan update through April 24.
The initial Sustainability Master Plan, published in spring 2007 is getting an update. Students, faculty and staff are invited to review the draft plan and offer input in-person and/or online.
“This is an opportunity to provide your input on what the Plan does or does not include,” commented Jessica Bilecki, education and outreach coordinator for the Office of Sustainability.
Campus community members are welcome to stop by to provide their input at any point during the following times:
- Wednesday, April 22, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Iconic (Lakeside) Plaza, Party for the Planet, Office of Sustainability table
- Thursday, April 23, between 12 and 2 p.m., Moseley 120, Office of Sustainability table
Office of Sustainability staff members will be available to record and discuss input from campus community members. Light snacks will be available to those who stop by and provide input.
Anyone not able to provide input in-person is encouraged to provide their input using this online form, which will be available through April 24.
“Receiving input from the campus community is a valuable and important part of updating the university’s Sustainability Master Plan,” said Elaine Durr, director of sustainability and chair of the environmental advisory council.
The Office of Sustainability and Environmental Advisory Council coordinated the development of the updated plan. Sixteen focus groups with various campus stakeholders were held June through September. The results of those focus groups informed the development of the revised plan.
The updated plan focuses on the next ten years and builds upon the success of the initial Sustainability Master Plan. Within operations, a key focus is energy reduction and additional use of non-fossil fuel energy sources.
While furthering sustainable operation efforts is essential to achieving Elon’s sustainability goals, so too is increasing campus awareness of and engagement in sustainability programs and initiatives. As such, the plan contains several strategies directed toward this overall objective.
