The dates of the institute are Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29. The deadline to register is May 15.
The Center for Writing Excellence is pleased to invite full-time faculty interested in learning more about or reviewing best practices in writing instruction to participate in Elon’s Summer Writing Institute. Those who are not teaching faculty but are interested in this institute or its topics are invited to please contact me. The dates of the institute are Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29, with a $750 stipend for participating every day (see further details below). The deadline to register is May 15. (REGISTERATION is CLOSED).
The institute is appropriate for faculty teaching in all disciplines and departments, and those beginning the Writing Excellence Initiative process in the fall are especially encouraged to participate.
By the end of the week, participants will have designed at least two complete writing assignments to use the following academic year and learned about a range of ideas for how to use writing to enhance student learning and how to teach writing effectively.
The institute will include brief presentations on writing and pedagogy-related topics, small- and large-group activities, guest visits from faculty across campus with writing expertise, and built-in time for individuals and groups to develop writing assignments and activities – this is intentionally designed as a “working” institute, so that by the end of the week participants will have materials and ideas to use immediately. Participants will be required to do a modest amount of reading some evenings, in preparation for the next day’s activities.
Further details about the Institute are below, and I encourage you to please contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you, I look forward to working with you this summer. – Paula Rosinski (prosinski@elon.edu)
