Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still followed today. Set in Oklahoma at the turn of the century when cattlemen and farmers were fighting over fences and water rights, two cowboys vie with a dark, brooding ranch hand and a traveling peddler for the hearts of the women they love.
