Tom Parham receives Elon Medallion

Head men's and women's tennis coach Tom Parham received the Elon Medallion at special ceremonies held May 7 to mark his retirement. Details...

President Leo M. Lambert made the Elon Medallion presentation at the conclusion of an evening of festivities at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the Elon campus. Prior to a banquet honoring Parham, several alumni and current members of the Elon tennis teams put on a tennis exhibition for the large crowd on hand. Athletics Director Alan White paid tribute to Parham and his wife, Margaret, for their years of dedication to Elon students.

Parham has coached tennis for 38 years, including 19 at Elon. He has 597 career victories and won national coach of the year awards in 1977, 1979, 1985 and 1990. His teams won 11 consecutive conference titles from 1987 to 1997 and made 28 national tournament appearances. Parham is a member of five tennis halls of fame: the Wilson County Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame, the Atlantic Christian/Barton College Hall of Fame, the NAIA Hall of Fame, the NC Tennis Hall of Fame and the South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame.
