The Acorn Accolade Technology Award of Excellence recognizes one I&CT employee each month for exemplary work.
Jeff James, chief engineer for Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT), was selected as the recipient of December’s Acorn Accolade. An Instructional and Campus Technology employee each month receives this award as recognition of his/her exemplary service to Elon University. To be considered for the award, I&CT employees must be recommended by the directors to the assistant vice president for technology.
James is the architect for video operations within TLT. Working behind the scenes, he plays a vital role in dozens of major events and numerous classes. In addition to his duties with TLT, James provides support for Elon Athletics and maintains the video production facilities at the School of Communications.
“Jeff is involved in so many things, and no one knows it,” says Brent Smith, video integrations manager and James’s supervisor. “Every student who walks across the stage during graduation, every fan who attends a home basketball game and nearly every Communication student is touched by Jeff’s work.”
The Acorn Accolade also recognizes James for his work on several key initiatives to improve Elon’s video infrastructure. During the past year, he designed and installed a new video control room at Alumni Gym, and has, over the past several years guided the upgrade process that has brought high definition video to all major university events. Over the summer, he received training and is now the CAA replay technician for football at Rhodes Stadium
“Jeff is not someone who looks for acknowledgement, so it’s nice to see him get the recognition he deserves,” adds Smith.
The Acorn Accolade will reside in the recipient’s workspace for one month and then move on when the next awardee is named. A small, 3D-printed replica will remain with each recipient in their workspace.
