The Foundation is holding its 63rd Banquet of Champions on July 23 at Greensboro’s Downtown Marriott Hotel.
The 2004 list of honorees includes Elon Sports Hall of Fame running back Bobby Hedrick (Bill Wade Unsung Hero Award); former Elon assistant athletics director and current Southern Conference commissioner Danny Morrison (General Robert Neyland Outstanding Athletics Director Award); trustee Dusty Rhodes (All-American Football Fan Award); Joanie Tolley, wife of Elon coaching legend Jerry Tolley (First Lady of Football Award); long-time Elon director of athletics Dr. Alan White (General Robert Neyland Outstanding Athletics Director Award) and Elon coaching great S.S. “Red” Wilson (Johnny Vaught Head Coach Award).
The banquet is dedicated to Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner John Swofford, the late Charles Justice (North Carolina) and the late Clint Castleberry (Georgia Tech). For reservations, contact the All-American Football Foundation at (601) 206-8877.
The Foundation’s board of officers is headed by president Jimmie McDowell and includes East regional vice president and Elon alumna Debbie Yow.
The AAFF was founded in 1994 and supported by 165 colleges and universities nationwide. It was established to honor individuals for distinguished contributions to the game of football in all phases of the game.
In addition, regional award banquets raise scholarship funds that are presented to institutions attended by outstanding college seniors who are selected for exemplary leadership from a national pool.
