The grant, from the NSF’s Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship program, will provide assistance to academically talented students with financial need.
The grant was secured by Lynn Heinrichs and Dave Powell, associate professors of computing sciences and business administration. Ten awards of $3,125 each will be available to Elon freshmen entering in the fall 2004 semester. Students must intend to major in computer science or computer information systems and demonstrate academic potential and financial need. Students must apply for the scholarships; an application form is available at the Web site below.
The awards are renewable for four years for students who make progress toward a degree in computer science or computer information systems. After the first year, award recipients will receive $100 to support participation in the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) student chapter and travel to the ACM regional conference. Scholarship recipients will also develop an electronic portfolio of their work to document their progress.
