Master of Education degrees awarded

Twenty students received master’s degrees in education from Elon University during Commencement exercises at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 21 in Whitley Auditorium. Details...

The graduating class includes three international teachers who have taught in the United States through the Visiting International Faculty (VIF) program. Based in Chapel Hill, N.C., VIF recruits international teachers for schools throughout the U.S.

Barbara Bass ’61, a member of Elon’s Board of Trustees and a retired educator, delivered the commencement address. Bass earned numerous teaching awards during a 35-year career in public and private schools in Virginia, including the 1984 National Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching. She retired from St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, Va., in 1995, where she served as chair of the math department.

Elon’s summer cohort M.Ed. program allows students to complete a master’s degree by attending three summer sessions and taking two or three online courses during the normal academic year.
