In the wake of the terrorist attacks in Belgium, Elon’s Global Education Center is providing a security advisory to the 105 students currently studying in Europe.
UPDATE (3/24/16 at 9 a.m.): Staff members in the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center are aware of a travel alert issued by the U.S. Department of State “alerting U.S. citizens to potential risks of travel to and throughout Europe following several terrorist attacks.”

Following the March 22 terrorist attacks at the airport and a subway station in Brussels, Belgium, Elon took quick action to confirm the safety of one student who is studying in Brussels through the CIEE study abroad program. She was hosting a visit from a fellow Elon student and they are both secure in her apartment.
There are currently 105 Elon students studying in Europe, with the largest number (39) in England. The Global Education Center (GEC) has sent an advisory to all students in Europe advising them to be vigilant following the terrorist attacks. Students are encouraged to keep in touch with their program coordinators on-site, with Elon and with their family members, especially when they travel away from their host cities. They are advised to follow local and international media and avoid large public events or demonstrations. Particular caution is crucial when using transportation systems such as airports, busses and subways. Students at Elon’s London and Florence centers are being advised by their faculty-in-residence about travel precautions during the upcoming Easter weekend.
The GEC continues to monitor U.S. Government security advisories and media reports, with the safety and well-being of Elon students around the globe as its top priority.
There are two students from Belgium currently studying at Elon; both are off campus during Spring Break and have been in contact with the university.
