William Blum, “Expanding the American Empire Under the Cover of the ‘War on Terrorism'”

Whitley Auditorium

7:30 p.m.

William Blum left the State Department in 1967 because of his opposition to Vietnam and became one of the founders and editors of the Washington Free Press, the first “alternative” newspaper in the capital. Serving as a freelance journalist in Chile from 1972-1973, he wrote about the Allende government’s “socialist experiment” and its overthrow in a CIA-designed coup. This gave him a heightened interest in the U.S. government’s involvement in the world. Blum’s books include Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II and Rogue State: A Guide to the World’s Only Super Power.
