Thirteen Elon Law students and a professor visited three embassies in Washington this month as part of a summer course on international law.
Led by Assistant Professor Antonette Barilla, who also directs Elon Law’s academic support and bar preparation programs, students visited the Belgian, Austrian, and Japanese embassies in Washington, D.C., in August as a part of “Private International Law.”
The class participated in a private question-and-answer session with diplomats from each consulate, and students enjoyed robust and instructive conversations on topics of international law and policy.
In addition to their studies in international conflicts of law, students conducted research and analyzed contemporary political and legal issues facing each of the countries.
“These students represented Elon Law well, offering thoughtful questions and commentary, and displaying an impressive knowledge and interest in global issues,” Barilla said.
