The two articles have been published in "Saxophone Today," a professional saxophone journal.
Professor of Music Thomas Erdmann had two 6,000+ word articles published in the September/October issue of “Saxophone Today.”
The first article is on jazz saxophonist Kris Allen. Among the artists he has worked with include Andy Gonzales, Winard Harper, Illinois Jacquet, Andy Jaffe, Mario Pavone, Avery Sharpe, Gary Smulyan, and Gerald Wilson, as well as Jen Allen, Noah Baerman, Rogerio Boccato, the Curtis Brothers, Jimmy Greene, Andy Laverne, Earl Macdonald, the Mingus Dynasty, Kendrick Oliver, Ike Sturm, and Helen Sung, to list just a few.
In addition to his many playing opportunities, Allen is the Lyell B. Clay Artist-In-Residence in Jazz at Williams College, having previously held positions at the Hartt School, Trinity College, Southern Connecticut State University and the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. He has been a Teaching Artist for Litchfield Performing Arts since 2001.
The second article is on quickly rising classical music star Emily Loboda. She stunned the world with her world premiere performance of “Journal Entries of an Introvert” by Evan Boegehold at the 2016 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference. She has also performed premieres of works by John Mackey, Binshan Zhao and Frank Nawrot, giving the Southern Region/North Carolina premiere of “Second Study for Alto Saxophone, Video, and Electronics: pulp” by James Thorpe Buchanan.
