Phoenix Cup energy conservation competition underway

The Phoenix Cup competition demonstrates cumulative impact of individual habits.

The Phoenix Cup is a biannual contest aimed at reducing Elon University’s ecological footprint. The fall competition, Phoenix Cup: Energy, rewards participants for developing small habits that reduce energy use and runs from Sept. 13 through Oct. 4.

Occupants in a building that conserve the most energy during the competition still get a free meal or can have a donation made on their behalf to select organizations. New this year, participants do not have to form teams. To participate, students, faculty and staff fill out a pledge. Complete the actions they agreed to and participate in Phoenix Cup Events.

Another new feature this year — students are given the carbon impact of each action.  This allows participants to know what actions have the most impact and better understand the cumulative impact of multiple small actions.

To participate or learn more about the competition visit the Phoenix Cup webpage, drop by the Eco-Rep office (first floor of Moseley) and/or attend an in-person event.
