Elon Law's Pro Bono Board and the Alamance County Bar Association are co-sponsoring an event to help community members in the lead-up to National Pro Bono Week.
Anyone with legal questions will have an opportunity to consult with attorneys at no cost later this month when Elon University School of Law’s Pro Bono Board and the Alamance County Bar Association co-sponsor “Ask-A-Lawyer” Day.
The program runs from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, at Ebenezer Center (734 Apple Street) in Burlington. For more information, email probono@elon.edu.
Walk-ins are welcome. Members of the community will receive free advice from a volunteer attorney about any legal issue except immigration matters. Volunteer attorneys will be assisted by Elon Law students during the event.
Attorneys at past events have typically fielded questions related to family law (divorce and child custody), landlord/tenant disputes, estate planning, criminal charges and criminal record expungements. Organizers said events such as “Ask-A-Lawyer” Day are a way for the legal profession to give back to their communities by expanding access to underserved populations.
“Ask-A-Lawyer” Day kicks off a weeklong series of events at Elon Law in celebration of National Pro Bono Week, an initiative of the American Bar Association. Two additional career panels are scheduled the week of Oct. 23-29 for students at the law school in downtown Greensboro.
