The 141st International Convention of the Audio Engineering Society was attended by Fred Johnson, lecturer in music production & recording arts.
Fred Johnson, lecturer in music production and recording arts at Elon, attended the Audio Engineering Society’s 141st International Convention, which was held in Los Angeles, California, from Sept. 29 through Oct. 2.
Johnson was able to meet with students and representatives from other schools during a dedicated student fair, and also took part in sessions reviewing student recordings. He enjoyed panel discussions on microphone placement, critical listening techniques for classroom pedagogy, audio networks and immersive audio and demonstration segments on live sound and studio techniques. At the adjoining manufacturer’s exhibit area, he connected with industry leaders and examined new technology in audio, along with discussing ways to bring some new resources to campus for students to experience and learn from.
Founded in 1948, the AES is the only professional organization devoted exclusively to audio technology, and its mission is to promote the science and practice of audio, by bringing leading people and ideas together. There are more than 13,000 members affiliated with more than 75 professional sections and more than 95 student sections around the world, including one here at Elon. Johnson will be working with the AES students at Elon in the near future to present some of today’s experts and technology to area professionals.
