Elon music lecturer performs concert of American music in Italy

Polly Cornelius, senior lecturer of music, was invited to perform a recital of American music and musical theatre repertoire in Florence, Italy on Oct. 6.

Polly Cornelius, senior lecturer of music, was invited to perform a recital of American music and musical theatre repertoire at St. Mark’s English church concert series in Florence, Italy on Oct. 6. 

Cornelius was accompanied by prolific Broadway composer Chris Miller, a 1999 Elon graduate and receipient of the Elon distinguished alumni award in 2014. They performed a varied recital, including a new song cycle commissioned by Miller for Cornelius entitled “Prairie Songs”.

Cornelius also presented a vocal styles masterclass at the Accademia Europea di Firenze on Oct. 10. Italian pianist, Cristiano Manzoni, accompanied the masterclass.
