Storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston will present “Tell the Stories So That They May Know” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5 in Whitley Auditorium. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and the Office of Cultural Programs.
Alston is a storyteller who models her role after that of the Griot, the keeper of the traditions and stories in African villages. Her repertoire includes educational raps, monologues, songs, poetry and dramatic impersonations from the African-American experience, which are enhanced by the sounds of traditional instruments, including the djembe, berimau, nkoning, mbira and the 21-stringed kora.
This performance is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
