Associate Dean Don Grady was one of four School of Communications faculty members who attended the inaugural Broadcast Education Association Super-Regional Conference on Oct. 13-15. Photos courtesy of SJMCMore than 100 professors, professional journalists and graduate students – including four School of Communications faculty members – gathered at the inaugural BEA Super-Regional Conference on Oct. 13-15 to discuss cutting-edge issues and research in broadcast and multimedia education.
The three-day conference, hosted at the University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SJMC), featured professional and academic training workshops, topical panel discussions, and competitions for both scholarly research and creative works. Among the communication educators and practitioners in attendance were School of Communications Associate Dean Don Grady, Associate Professors Vic Costello and Tom Nelson, and Assistant Professor Max Negin.
Assistant Professor Max Negin (far right) led a two-part workshop on Adobe After Effects, a digital visual effects, motion graphics and compositing application.Costello was heavily involved in facilitating the BEA event, serving as a conference co-chair alongside SJMC Professor Laura K. Smith and leading a panel titled “From Newsroom to Control Room: The Effects of Automation and Virtual Sets on Control Room and Production Workflows.” He also organized and moderated the awards ceremony for the faculty and student creative works competition.
Additionally, Grady organized and led an assessment workshop and Negin oversaw a two-part workshop on Adobe After Effects.
“USC did a fantastic job hosting us in their impressive new facilities,” said Costello. “It was a great experience and successful conference.”
