An Evening with Rumi and Rabia

Friday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in LaRose Digital Theater

Join us for an inspiring evening of Sufi poetry and Persian music. Acclaimed Rumi interpreter Peter Rogen will give performative readings of the mystic poetry of Rumi (1207-1273 CE) and Rabia (714-801 CE), with accompaniment on traditional instruments and singing provided by Amir Vehab, Yvette Gogass and Gail Niziak.

Rumi’s poetry is well known for its loving spirituality, and Rabia is one of the best-known female Muslim saints and Sufi mystics. 

Peter Rogen, a well-known presenter of Rumi’s poetry and has given more than 150 lectures and performances at venues like the National Cathedral in Washington DC, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many colleges and universities including Amherst, Boston College, Duke, and Yale.

Amir Vahab is one of New York’s most celebrated and distinguished composers and vocalists of sufi and folk music. Amir is a superb player of the tanbor (Persian lute), nay flute (Persian reed flute), and the daf drum (Persian snare drum). He sings in both Persian and Turkish, and recites Rumi in both languages.

This event is free and open to the public. It is part of the Ripple Interfaith Conference.
