Professor Janet MacFall in the Department of Environmental Studies will be recognized with the Conservation Communicator Award from the Hugh Bennett Chapter of the national Soil and Water Conservation Society on Feb. 25.
The chapter, which represents North Carolina, presents the award to an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding effort to widely communicate the conservation goals of the society. These goals are reflected in a quote from Hugh Hammond Bennett, the founding leader of the Soil and Water Conservation Service, now the U.S.D.A. Natural Resource Conservation Service. In the quote, Bennett states, “From every conceivable angle – economic, social, cultural, public health, national defense – conservation of natural resources is an objective on which all should agree.”
Bennett was born and raised in North Carolina, and is a part of a long-time tradition of conservation tradition in this state.
