2018-2020 Capstone Experiences research seminar participants announced

The Center for Engaged Learning (CEL) accepted 24 participants for its 2018 – 2020 research seminar on Capstone Experiences.

Participants attend their first one-week summer meeting at Elon this June. The multi-institutional research seminar is led by Caroline Ketcham (Elon University), Jillian Kinzie (Indiana University) and Tony Weaver (Elon University). Of the accepted participants, Ketevan Kupatadze and Olivia Choplin represent Elon University.

Participants will collaborate on two-year, multi-institutional research projects with three summer meetings on campus. These multi-institutional collaborations, which use a mixed-methods approach to conduct qualitative and quantitative research, enable larger scale studies and explorations of the impact of different institutional contexts.

The Center for Engaged Learning has held research seminars that support multi-institutional research focusing on engaged learning topics and high-impact practices since 2009 when the Center hosted the Teaching Democratic Thinking research seminar. This summer, the Center also hosts the second meeting of the CEL Research Seminar on Residential Learning Communities as a High-Impact Practice and the final meeting of the CEL Research Seminar on Faculty Change Towards High-Impact Pedagogies.

Research seminar participants produce concrete research and teaching outcomes. Past Center for Engaged Learning research seminars have generated edited volumes, journal articles and book chapters, white papers, and conference presentations – as well as local initiatives on participants’ home campuses.
