Capping a busy fall for advocacy students at Elon Law, Jordan Hensley L'18 and Therron Causey L'19 reached the semifinals in the Richmond regional of a program co-sponsored by New York City Bar Association's National Moot Court Competition Committee and the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Jordan Hensley L’18 and Therron Causey L’19 advanced to the semifinal round of the Richmond regional of the National Moot Court Competition, an annual event co-sponsored by New York City Bar Association’s National Moot Court Competition Committee and the American College of Trial Lawyers.
The National Moot Court Competition is one of the oldest and largest moot court competitions in the country, with over 120 law schools competing in regional rounds throughout the United States, with winners advancing to final rounds at the New York City Bar. The Richmond regional drew 16 teams from nine law schools.
The Elon Law competitors advanced with preliminary round wins over teams from Washington & Lee and the University of Louisville, plus a win in the quarterfinals over a team from UNC Chapel Hill. Hensley and Causey were eliminated in the semifinals against a team from Wake Forest University School of Law.
A second Elon Law team of Logan DeHart L’19 and Jana Schaal L’19 narrowly missed advancing to the quarterfinals. Both teams were coached by Senior Associate Dean Alan Woodlief and Andrea Davis L’12, an adjunct professor and alumna of the Elon Law Moot Court Board.
The National Competition capped off a busy fall for the Moot Court Board.
Earlier in November, two Elon Law teams – Sarah Trombley and Haley Mendola, and David Wheaton and Elizabeth Koeman – competed in the National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C., with Wheaton and Koeman reaching the competition quarterfinals. In October, Anthony DeLucia and Catherine Bryant competed in the Leroy R. Hassell Sr. National Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition at Regent University School of Law where DeLucia was honored as the competition’s top oral advocate.
Both Veterans Law and Regent teams were coached by Michael Costolo and Bree Ward, adjunct professors and Elon Law Moot Court alumni.
Elon Law’s Moot Court Board this fall hosted or co-hosted two high-profile competitions: October’s Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition, featuring 30 teams from 26 schools across the United States; and alongside the school’s Advocacy Fellows and other students, an ABA Negotiation Competition that welcomed 24 teams from 10 law schools to downtown Greensboro in November.

More than 100 students and faculty coaches from around the country participated in fall competitions at Elon Law, and nearly 100 judges and attorneys, including dozens of Elon Law alums, served as judges for competitions hosted in Greensboro.
