Call for proposals: Learning Through International Experiences conference

The Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies will sponsor a conference on Learning Through International Experiences on Monday through Thursday, Sept. 26–29, 2005. The conference will consist of 5 sessions/panels. Each session/panel will have a moderator and 3 to 4 presenters. Individual presentations will be up to 15 minutes each, with time for discussion to follow. Proposals will be accepted for the following panels/sessions:

  • Alumni presentations-This session will include papers by Elon alumni who have participated in study abroad and/or international studies research while at Elon
  • Faculty research-This session will focus on faculty research about international issues, the impact of study abroad on students, the effects of internationalizing the campus, problems and prospects of learning through international experiences, and so on
  • War as an international experience-The academic year 2005-2006 falls within the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. The goal of this session is to explore war as an international experience in terms of issues such as forgiveness and understanding, soldier experiences, the impact of war on contemporary culture, and so on.
  • International students-This session will provide international students at Elon an opportunity to present research about their experiences of learning in a US university. Topics might include discussions of culture shock, issues pertaining to learning in a foreign culture, and others.
  • Student research-This session is intended to give Elon students an opportunity to present their research related to any aspect of study abroad or international issues.

Proposal Guidelines

Please send an abstract of your research/paper/presentation of approximately 250 words. Your proposal should be a clear statement of what your research is about, what your presentation will cover, its relevance to the theme of the conference (“Learning Through International Experience”), and for which session you would like to be considered.
