Section of East Haggard Avenue to close during Elon Commencement 2019

The stretch of East Haggard Avenue that runs through Elon's campus will close at 7 p.m. on May 23 and reopen at 9 p.m. on May 24.

Commencement 2016 was the first time ceremonies were held on Scott Plaza in front of Alamance Building.
A stretch of East Haggard Avenue running through Elon's campus will be closed during the university's 129th Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 24.

The road will be closed from North Williamson Avenue to North O'Kelly Avenue from 7 p.m. on May 23 through 9 p.m. on May 24. Elon's commencement exercises will begin on Scott Plaza in front of the Alamance Building at 8:45 a.m. on May 24. Traffic will be detoured around the closed section, with police officers stationed at Haggard and Williamson avenues as well as Haggard and O'Kelly avenues to direct traffic.

Elon Commencement 2019 will feature changes to the program to better accommodate students and their families, with the undergraduate ceremonies previously held on Saturday shifted to Friday.

Following this outdoor ceremony, there will be two separate diploma-awarding ceremonies for the Class of 2019 held in Schar Center. Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Education will award diplomas at the 11:30 a.m. ceremony. The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business and the School of Communications will award diplomas at the 3:30 p.m. ceremony. Each ceremony will last about two hours.
