Bob Russ, assistant professor of English, performed parts of his one-man play “Homer Tonight” for literature students at the Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo in Vitoria, Brazil this summer.
Russ, third from the right in the front row of this photo with the class, adapted the show for the Brazilian students, who had recently read the Iliad. Russ performed portions, alternating with students and a professor reading from a Portuguese translation of the Iliad, with each one taking a different role.
“This performance/workshop made the text come alive in new ways for them,” says Russ. “At the end, they did not want to stop the questions and discussion, even after the period was over.
