The Department of Performing Arts will present "Damn Yankees," winner of seven Tony Awards, Oct. 31-Nov. 2 and Nov. 7-9.
The Department of Performing Arts will lead audiences through the story of love and America’s pastime, as it presents Broadway mega-hit “Damn Yankees.”
The Elon cast will perform the seven-time Tony Award-winning production from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 and Nov. 7-9 inside McCrary Theatre at the Center for the Arts. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m.
“Damn Yankees” is a Broadway musical based on the novel “The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant,” by Douglass Wallop. The story follows baseball fanatic Joe Boyd, who trades his soul to the Devil — also known as Mr. Applegate — for a chance to lead his favorite baseball team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. He later becomes young baseball sensation Joe Hardy, transforming the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life he’s left behind.
Doug Hall is director of the Elon production of “Damn Yankees.” Choreography was produced by Instructor in Performing Arts Deborah Leamy, and Lecturer in Performing Arts and Music Theatre Music Director/Conduct Valerie Maze provided music direction for the show.
