Elon's Festival of Holiday Lights will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3. with campus decorated with luminarias that honor those who have supported the university with their gifts and service.
Elon will kick off the holiday season on Dec. 3 with its annual Festival of Holiday Lights.
What started as a simple ceremony 35 years ago has grown into a festive tradition with seasonal drinks, music, merriment and the formal lighting of holiday decorations. One of the biggest draws of the evening is seeing the thousands of luminarias that light the pathways.
For the sixth year, Elon will honor its generous alumni and senior student donors for the current fiscal year (since June 1) by placing their names on the luminarias. For the first time, faculty and staff had the opportunity to make a gift and be honored with their names placed on luminaries as well.
Parents were also invited to make a gift in honor of their student to celebrate their accomplishments and take part in this rich tradition.
The glow of thousands of lights that represent those who choose to give back is a remarkable sight. The community is invited to come celebrate the unofficial kick-off to the holiday season and enjoy the festivities.
