Amy Overman speaks on women’s networking and mentoring

Professor of Psychology Amy Overman on May 16, 2019, presented a workshop on strategies for leveraging professional networks to build leadership potential at the Empowered to Lead: Women in Higher Education 2nd Annual Leadership Conference. Overman, who is also assistant dean of Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, presented with Gloria Thomas, director of the Carolina Women’s Center at UNC-Chapel Hill and Jennifer Burris, chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Appalachian State University.

Overman, Thomas and Burris were then invited to co-present on the importance of building a mentoring network on October 4, 2019 at BRIDGES, “an inclusive professional development program for women in higher education who seek to gain or strengthen their academic leadership capabilities,” along with Amy Strickland, Director of Assessment at Western Carolina University.

Overman is State Chair-Elect for the North Carolina American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network which she helped revitalize over the past three years with Thomas, Burris, Strickland, and others colleagues at academic institutions across the state of North Carolina. The national system of ACE state women’s networks began in 1977 via a grant from the Carnegie Corporation to the American Council on Education.
