Volunteers will be available at the storage trailer in the McMichael science center parking lot from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday-Friday between now and Wednesday, Oct. 12. A group of approximately 30 students and 8 faculty and staff members will leave Friday, Oct. 14 for Gulfport and Bay St. Louis, Miss., where they will work at a local community center, assisting with rebuilding efforts and delivering supplies to neighborhoods in need.
Individuals, student organizations, residence halls and apartments, academic departments and anyone else who may be interested in donating supplies should contact the Kernodle Center for Service Learning at 278-7250 and sign up for a specific group of supplies. The Kernodle Center will coordinate the collection of items to ensure that Elon provides a balanced supply of necessary items to the area.
Choose from one of the following groups:
- Group A: Baby items-formula, diapers, baby cereal, baby powder, wet wipes
- Group B: T-shirts, shorts, socks, underwear (All of these items need to be new and unused)
- Group C: First-aid supplies, quinine tablets, aspirin and Tylenol
- Group D: Hygiene products–toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, razors, feminine products, etc.
- Group E: Unscented bleach, liquid laundry detergent, anti-bacterial hand soap, bug repellent
- Group F: Non-perishable food
