During the virtual ceremony, members of the graduating class will be officially awarded their degrees, with an in-person celebration of the class to be held on campus later this year.
Members of the Undergraduate Class of 2020 will be officially awarded their degrees during an online conferral ceremony at noon EDT. The ceremony will be available at www.elon.edu/live and on a special Conferral Ceremony website that includes the program, a list of graduates and student honors and awards.
Led by President Connie Ledoux Book, the virtual ceremony will feature remarks from university leaders and musical performances by members of the Class of 2020. The event is not intended to simulate or rival in-person Commencement activities, which have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but will provide the opportunity to confer degrees to members of the class and recognize the accomplishments these students have achieved during the past four years.
Shortly after the ceremony, members of the Class of 2020 will be emailed a digital copy of their diplomas, with the physical diplomas sent by mail.
The university will share details in the coming weeks about how the Elon community can use social media to celebrate this milestone for the Class of 2020 together. The Commencement website — www.elon.edu/commencement — includes important information about receiving caps and gowns, yearbook photographs and purchases, and other details. The site will continue to be updated with more details as the ceremony draws nearer and plans are developed for the in-person celebration.
“We will keep you updated as we continue to assess when it will be safe to hold in-person Commencement and related activities,” said President Book in an email to members of the Class of 2020. “I look forward to celebrating with the Class of 2020 virtually on May 22 and in-person as soon as we can.”
