Elon choral groups élan and Camerata will be streaming performances this week on the Elon University Choral Activities Facebook page. The performances come as classes prepare to conclude for the semester.
élan — A Tribute to Billy Joel
Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
Elon’s vocal jazz ensemble, élan, presents music from singer/songwriter Billy Joel. Accompanied with rhythm section, the concert will feature hits such as: “Only the Good Die Young,” “Lullabye,” “Always a Woman,” “Longest Time,” “Uptown Girl,” “New York State of Mind,” and of course, “Piano Man,” as well as others.
Camerata — A Celebration of Light
Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
The Elon University Camerata, performs a concert of a cappella works from centuries of choral art in celebration of the holiday spirit. This year’s narrated script features writings from the collected works of T.S. Eliot as well as scripture. This unique, reflective celebration of the season will be the fifteenth installment of this highly acclaimed program and has become an annual part of our community’s anticipation of the season of light. With Elon University organist W. Thomas Jones and narrated by Brent Smith, Elon assistant director of teaching and learning technologies.
Earlier this semester, the two groups gathered virtually for a performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with Elon alum Josh Carswell ’11 singing the solo. View that performance here.
