Led by Elon Associate Professor of Music Stephen A. Futrell, Voices celebrates 40 years.
For a community-based, performing arts organization, COVID proved to offer many challenges. The main issue was staying together. Voices – The Chapel Hill Chorus managed to do just that.
“When I was invited to join Voices as the new Artistic Director/Conductor just over two years ago, I could feel the energy, excitement, and dedication these singers had for music, their craft, and for engaging their community,” said Elon University Director of Choral Activities Stephen Futrell. “I continue to be honored to have been selected.”
The organization supports two performing vocal ensembles, Cantari (a smaller chamber choir), and Voices (the larger chorus). Each group set about rehearsing via zoom, and ultimately audio and video recording five projects during the course of the fall semester. The projects can be viewed following this link to the Voices YouTube channel:
“We hope the songs are inspirational to those who view and listen to the recordings,” Futrell said.
