Campus Recreation and Wellness updates services and opportunities for spring

Campus Recreation & Wellness has announced updates to opportunities for Elon students, faculty and staff as the spring semester begins.

With the start of the spring semester, Campus Recreation & Wellness is offering a number of opportunities and services to Elon students, faculty and staff to support and promote well-being throughout the university community.

Those in the community looking to exercise in campus facilities will have access to the Koury Center and Phoenix Activities & Recreation Center (PARC), both of which will be open with limited capacities and safety modifications, including scheduled workout times. This semester, gyms and racquetball/squash courts have also been reopened for recreation. A full list of modifications, including instructions on how to reserve a workout time, can be found on the Spring 2021 Operations website.

Faculty/staff locker rooms have also reopened for the spring. If you are interested in reserving a locker for the semester at a prorated $10 fee, contact Jenny Larson at jlarson4@elon.edu.

Group exercise classes are free to students, faculty and staff this year with approximately 25 weekly classes. In-person classes are held in studios and gyms with modifications – Campus Recreation & Wellness will move many classes outdoors as weather permits. Anyone interested in a more personalized exercise experience can request a private class for up to 25 people by emailing groupexercise@elon.edu or register for a personal training package. All Campus Recreation & Wellness trainers are nationally certified, and faculty and staff are eligible for a 50-percent reimbursement through Human Resources, upon completion of a PT package. For those who are most comfortable working out at home, the Campus Recreation & Wellness YouTube channel offers a variety of group exercise classes on demand taught by Elon student instructors.

The Elon Challenge offers group development, including both in-person (at the course or any other location) and virtual programs to meet the needs of the community. More information and a request form is on the Elon Challenge website. Additionally, the SPARKS peer educators are available to engage classes and student organizations in a variety of health and wellness topics – visit the SPARKS website for more information and to request a session.

The Elon community is also invited to participate in Love Your Body Week, the department’s annual week-long celebration of body positivity and holistic well-being, from Feb. 22-26. This year’s celebration features a variety of in-person and virtual programs, including a virtual keynote by Mike Marjama, a professional baseball player who will share his story about overcoming eating disorders. Contact Charlotte Williams at cwilliams73@elon.edu or visit the Love Your Body Week website for more information, including a full schedule and links to virtual events.
