Dr. Francis has served the SACS Commission on Colleges in numerous capacities since becoming a member of his first visitation team in 1985. He has served on 22 SACS visitation teams; four as a member and 18 as chair. A listing of his service includes the following:
– Served as special reader for Criteria and Reports Committee for over 10 years and chaired C&R Committee from 1997 to 1999
– Served as elected SACS commissioner on the Commission on Colleges from 1994 to 1999
– Served on the Executive Council of the Commission on Colleges from 1994 to 1997 and chaired the North Carolina delegation of SACS from 1994 to 1997
– Chaired special committee on Criteria Related to Non-Traditional Educational Institutions from 1995 to 1997
– Provided leadership for Elon in three self-studies: 1981 – 82, 1991 – 92, and 2001 – 02
