University transition task forces created

President Lambert, with the advice of Professor Tom Green, chair of the Academic Council, and SGA President John Gardner, has appointed members to serve on two university transition task forces.

Dr. Nancy Midgette has agreed to chair a task force charged with fully exploring the meanings, ramifications, benefits, and consequences of retaining the name Elon College for the College of Arts and Sciences within Elon University.

Members of the task force led by Nancy Midgette are Patricia Basial, Glenda Beamon, Catherine Coker, Earl Danieley, Pranab Das, Todd Lee, Jennifer Reaves, Vickie Somers, John Sullivan, Katherine Townsend, Maureen Vandermaas-Peeler, and Anthony Weston.

Dr. Deborah Thurlow has agreed to chair the university transition task force on enhancing Elon’s collegiate culture. Charged with recommending intentional steps Elon should take to maintain its intimate and collegial character, the task force will also discuss how to reinforce our central commitment to undergraduate teaching.

The members of the task force led by Debbie Thurlow are Jim Barbour, Steve Braye, Janet Cooper, Don Grady, Smith Jackson, Richard McBride, Jennifer McCort, Alan Medeiros, Lela Faye Rich, Robyn Trotter, and Mary Wise.

Reports from both task forces are expected before the end of the spring 2001 semester.
