Zora Stephenson ’15 named NBC Sports basketball reporter for Tokyo Olympics

The former Elon women's basketball team captain who has served as the sideline reporter for the Milwaukee Bucks during the past two seasons, will continue with NBC Sports following the Olympic Games.

NBC Sports announced Monday that Zora Stephenson ’15 will serve as the basketball reporter for the network’s coverage of the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Stephenson shared the news about her move to NBC Sports on her Instagram account.

Stephenson, who was a three-year starter and a team captain for Elon’s women’s basketball team, landed the role at the Olympics after serving for the last two seasons as sideline and digital reporter for the Milwaukee Bucks on Bally Sports/Fox Sports Wisconsin. In April, she became the first woman to handle television play-by-play coverage for a Bucks game in the team’s 53-year franchise history.

“I am excited to join NBC Sports and can’t wait to travel to Tokyo,” Stephenson said. “I’ve always respected the commitment to storytelling at NBC Sports and I’m thrilled to begin with the Olympics.”

Stephenson has also served as an on-air contributor for WTMJ-Radio, The Truth, and ESPN Radio in Milwaukee. Before moving to Milwaukee, Stephenson was an Emmy Award-winning anchor and journalist at stations in Denver, Colorado, and Greenville, North Carolina.

“We are excited for Zora to join our team, and what a way to start as a basketball reporter at the Olympics, as the U.S. women’s and men’s teams look to continue their dominance,” said Sam Flood, executive producer & president of production for NBC Sports.

The opening ceremony for the Tokyo Olympics is Friday, July 23, on NBC.

In 2019 Elon honored Stephenson with a Top 10 Under 10 Alumni Award, recognizing her along with nine other honorees who have achieved major professional success, served as difference-makers in their communities and loyally support Elon.
