This fall Elon is launching two new programs in nursing, the first undergraduate programs in Elon’s School of Health Sciences.
As health systems across the country and the world struggle to meet staff shortages accentuated by the pandemic, Elon’s new Department of Nursing is launching two programs this fall that aim to prepare health care providers who are committed to local and global health equity.
Whether students select the four-year pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing or the 16-month Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, they will gain the knowledge, skills and global perspective needed to thrive in today’s ever-changing health care landscape.
“Elon’s national leadership in high-impact practices and engaged learning, our commitment to inclusive excellence and our rich arts and sciences foundation will help us prepare nurse leaders who will have a profound impact in their practice and in their communities,” says nursing department chair Tiffany Morris. “They will focus on community health nursing with an emphasis on health promotion, health maintenance and disease prevention among populations.”
Both programs take advantage of the School of Health Sciences’ innovative facilities and simulation spaces and offer engaged learning opportunities with faculty, clinical instruction at area hospitals and clinics, and distinctive coursework. The programs will have special emphasis on health care relationships, health equity, crucial conversations in health care and evidence-based practice. Morris says the goal is to promote health equity throughout the curriculum.
“Elon nurse leaders will be prepared to influence the impact of disparity and diversity within health care,” she adds. “They will be fiscally minded and comfortable with population-level data so they can optimize the quality of health care and outcomes.”
