Linda Martindale, secretary for the departments of English, languages, philosophy and religious studies, was quoted in the Dec. 4 issue of Soap Opera Digest.
Martindale was quoted in a story titled “Designing Women,” which examines the portrayal of female characters in soap operas. “Soaps (rarely) show that a woman thinks through the process and makes her own decisions,” Martindale says. “She usually turns to the man and says, ‘Should I really do this?'”
Martindale has devoted considerable study to soap operas and has chaired or participated in various conferences on the subject.
