Healthy Elon Committee update on boosters and mask policy

Elon University is strongly recommending booster shots for students, faculty and staff, and will continue its indoor mask policy through Winter Term and January.

Dear members of the Elon community,

Thank you for your continued commitment to maintaining a Healthy Elon campus, limiting the spread of COVID at Elon, and supporting a successful Fall Semester.

Please see the following updates below:

  • The indoor mask policy will continue through Winter Term and January.
  • Elon strongly recommends everyone get a booster before January.
  • Stay updated for Winter Term by checking email and the Healthy Elon Website.

Get Your Booster before January

Now is the time, during winter break, to ensure you are protected against serious illness from the ongoing spread of COVID-19. With the onset of the highly transmissible Omicron variant, and in keeping with CDC recommendations, Elon strongly recommends that all students, faculty, and staff get a booster before January, and upload your documentation to Elon’s vaccination portal.

  • Use the vaccines.gov website to find locations near you to schedule your booster. This will be the quickest and most convenient way to get boosted.
  • For those who have not yet received their boosters, on-campus vaccine clinics will be held early in January.

Indoor Mask Requirement Extended through January

Since Thanksgiving, the spread of COVID-19 has increased in our region, across the country, and on campus (18 new cases Nov. 29-Dec. 10). Most of North Carolina has returned to the CDC’s “high level” of community transmission. Utilizing the tools that have kept us safe during the past two years, the indoor mask policy will remain in place through the Winter Term and the end of January. Students, employees, and visitors must wear masks in indoor campus spaces, except when alone in a private office, in a residence hall/apartment room, or while eating or drinking.

Policies for Spring Semester will be communicated in January, based on recommendations from health authorities and the level of virus transmission at that time.
