As COVID cases continue to increase around the world, in our region, and at Elon, we want to provide information about the coming holiday weekend and plans for the future.
Testing resources over the MLK weekend
While the university is closed this Monday to commemorate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, testing will be offered as follows. Expect lines at both sites.
- Symptomatic Testing (no appointment at Ellington Student Health Services)
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- Sunday: 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
- Monday: 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
- Asymptomatic Testing (no appointment at 207 McCoy Commons in the Oaks)
- Monday: 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

Weather, travel, and caution
With the dual threat of the potential winter storm this Sunday and the highly contagious virus, we encourage students to avoid the risks of travel over the long weekend.
Current cases on campus and next steps
As of this morning, there are 194 active student cases and 58 active faculty and staff cases on campus. Most of those affected are experiencing mild symptoms and undergoing the shortened period of isolation recommended by the CDC. These classmates and colleagues are navigating significant disruptions in their daily work and activities.
- Transmission of the virus on campus continues to be primarily through social interactions. It is imperative that we use the prevention tools we have:
- While health experts have expressed cautious optimism that we may soon be approaching the peak of the Omicron surge, we understand that the rollercoaster of rising and falling COVID cases may continue in the weeks ahead. Although additional mitigation measures are not being implemented at this time, we remain prepared to make changes to events, activities, or operations in the coming weeks, if necessary. Based on epidemiological projections and recommendations from state and federal health officials, we anticipate maintaining the Spring Semester schedule and starting on time. We will communicate more specific information about Spring Semester next week.
