Ellis to speak at Plains Indian Seminar

Clyde Ellis, associate professor of history, has accepted an invitation to speak at the 25th annual Plains Indian Seminar in September. Details...

Held at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyo., the seminar invites 10-12 scholars and native leaders from the United States and Canada each year to discuss important Indian issues.

Ellis spoke at the seminar in 2001. He will present a talk titled, “‘We Don’t Want Your Rations, We Want This Dance’: The Revitalization of Dance Culture on the Southern Plains, 1880-1930.” The talk comes from his forthcoming book on the history of Southern Plains powwow culture.
