Monday marked the first day of classes for the 2022 Spring Semester, with many students returning to campus from studying abroad during Winter Term.
Elon University’s brick pathways again buzzed with activity on Monday as the 2022 Spring Semester officially got underway.
The first day of classes for the semester followed the month-long Winter Term during January that saw about 900 Elon students studying abroad with others remaining on campus for coursework.
The start of classes also means the resumption of an Elon tradition — College Coffee — with students, faculty and staff invited to the semester’s first coffee social on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 9:40 a.m. on Phi Beta Kappa Commons.
Students are also invited to Moseley Center on Thursday, Feb. 10, for the Spring Organization Fair. The event provides the opportunity for hundreds of student organizations to share about their missions, goals and activities, and for students to explore new ways to be engaged in the Elon experience.
The semester begins with Elon continuing to rely on a range of measures designed to promote health and safety on campus during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Students are required to receive a vaccine booster or be approved for an exemption while university employees are strongly encouraged to obtain a booster. The university’s indoor mask requirement remains in effect as the semester gets underway, with university leaders continuing to rely upon guidance from local, state and federal health officials on health and safety measures.
Spring Semester also sees a continuation of the university’s Speaker Series, which will present Eric Liu on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Liu is the co-founder and CEO of Citizen University, a nonprofit national platform founded in 2005 to foster citizenship through activation, communication and education. He launched and now directs the Aspen Institute’s Citizenship & American Identity Program, an effort to advance the conversation about the nature of American national identity.
The Speaker Series is just one part of a full Cultural Calendar for the spring, with dramatic productions, art exhibits, musical performances and other events coming up at Elon during the next several months.
Looking ahead at the remainder of the academic calendar, Elon will mark Spring Break from Saturday, March 12, until Sunday, March 20, and the Easter Holiday on Monday, April 18. Classes end on Tuesday, May 10, with Commencement for the Class of 2022 scheduled for Friday, May 20.
