Elon hosts student athletic trainer symposium

More than 130 high school students were on campus July 15-18, taking part in the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association's student trainer symposium. Details...

The symposium gives high school students who are interested in a career in athletic training the chance to learn from experienced trainers at the college and professional sports team levels. Four levels of instruction are available based on each student’s level of experience. Seminars are offered in all phases of athletic training, including injury diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and common training room practices.

North Carolina’s student trainer symposium, which started in 1961, is the nation’s oldest. Elon has hosted the seminar each year since 1998.

Two Elon students, senior Kelly Gallagher and junior Nick Schroeder, led training sessions. Head athletic trainer Martin Baker and assistant trainer Greg Calone joined the staff of N.C. certified trainers who offered instruction.
