Tom Erdmann, associate professor of music, has been selected to chair the 2003 International Jazz Improvisation Competition, scheduled for May 21-24, 2003 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
The competition has launched the careers of many of today’s top jazz trumpeters, including Ingrid Jensen, who has visited Elon as a guest artist. Jensen recently signed a recording contract with Enja record label, and is considered one of the leading trumpeters on the jazz scene today.
Erdmann has served as a judge at various festivals and competitions, and is a frequent contributor to Saxophone Journal and the International Trumpet Guild Journal.
