The northernmost of three football practice fields in the North athletics complex was named for George Tucker, Elon’s head football coach from 1960-64, during a special ceremony Saturday, Sept. 7. A gift from friends and former players, Tucker Field is a tribute to Tucker’s coaching career and the influence he had on his players.

Athletics Director Alan White, President Leo M. Lambert and Elon alumnus Dan Kelley presided with Tucker at the dedication.

During his time as coach, Tucker compiled a record of 29 wins, 20 losses and one tie. In 1964, his team went 8-1-1 and produced Elon’s first outright conference championship in more than 20 years.

Tucker was inducted into the Elon Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He lives in Columbia, S.C., with his wife, Becky.
