Yow inducted into Basketball Hall of Fame

A native of nearby Gibsonville, Yow has won 625 games during her career. She began her career in 1971 as head coach of Elon’s first women’s basketball team. In four seasons, she compiled a record of 57 wins, 19 losses, and led Elon to two state championships.

She is in her 28th season as head coach at N.C. State, where she has a record of 568 wins, 249 losses. Her Wolfpack teams have qualified for the NCAA tournament in 15 of the last 19 years and won five Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championships.

She is the only coach in the history of women’s basketball to win a gold medal at the Olympics (Seoul, 1988) and the World Championships (1986). Yow is a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Sports Hall of Fame.

Yow joined Magic Johnson, Drazen Petrovic, Larry Brown, Lute Olson and the Harlem Globetrotters as members of the Hall’s 44th induction class. For more information about the Hall of Fame inductees, visit the Web site at the bottom of this page.
