Jason Husser offers insights to WFMY into how Roe v. Wade decision could play out in N.C.

Husser, an associate professor of political science and director of the Elon University Poll, spoke with the CBS affiliate about what a Supreme Court decision on a key abortion case could mean for the state legislature.

With the U.S. Supreme Court poised to potentially take action to overturn the historic Roe v. Wade court decision, political experts are discussing what such a move could mean for state legislators, which could become increasingly powerful in determining access to legal abortions.

Following the leak of a draft opinion by the court this week, Associate Professor of Political Science Jason Husser spoke with WFMY News 2 about the potential impact on the N.C. General Assembly, which is controlled by Republicans, and Gov. Roy Cooper, who has previously vetoed measures to restrict abortion access passed by the legislature.

“It will increase the stakes for state legislative races and governors races across the country,” said Husser, who is the director of the Elon University Poll. “We’re going to see more and more political campaigns at the state level focus on abortion as a primary issue or one of the primary issues.”
